Rochdale
Transport Club, 7th March
I arrived at the Transport
Club, just as the band were starting the opening song, Higher Place
by Journey. There was a reasonable crowd. And they seemed to be
enjoying it as the band went through the usual songs.
There were obviously
journey fans in as Dave the singer was teasing the crowd by asking
if there were any in.
The band then changed
from the usual routine and did two Journey songs together ‘Be
Good to Yourself, and ‘Anyway you want it’ Dann sang
on Be Good to Yourself, and did an excellent job of it.
The first of the guests
for the night was a long time friend of the band called Carl. I
had a little chat with him and he has been friends of the band for
over 10 years. He got up and played acoustic guitar on Every Rose
Has It’s Thorn, by Poison, and did himself proud.
Jagged seem to like guests/friends
getting up with the band, as there are always new people getting
up to play. This is quite unusual as many bands I know do not have
guests get up with them.
The last song of the
first set Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb, was fantastic, Dann plays
it better than anyone I have ever seen, and did just that again
tonight.
Second set was opened with It’s my life, by Bon Jovi. Then
Sweet Child from Guns n Roses. Then there was the turn of ‘Bob’
a keyboard player who was going to join Jagged some time ago, Dave
B announced. He did the keyboard song ‘Jump’ from Van
Halen, and again like Carl earlier, did a wonderful job.
Then was back to the
journey songs first up was ‘Separate Ways’ Dave R never
sung this as well as he normally does, but later told me he was
tired and been up too long.
Next was the classic
Don’t Stop Believin. Then through to the usual Bon Jovi’s
and AC/DC. The finish with Kansas was a good idea and a change.
Overall a very enjoyable
night, and something different with the two guests playing.
The room very awkward
and the sound is, how can I put it, it is ok not the best, but I
put down to the room, and I was told by someone in the audience
that Jagged have a good sound compared to the other bands that play
here.
So my first visit to
the Transport Club, and I think it might be my last. It is just
not a good venue for watching and sound, and if people were there
to watch Jagged for the first time and are impressed with them,
then please people see them somewhere else you will be blown away.
